Perth races – Festival day 1

Three runners in the same race is never ideal but sometimes there are few other options. The two and a half mile maiden hurdle had our three runners, Berkshire Downs, ridden by Adam Nicol was hampered four out when the horse in front of her had no racing room and unfortunately after that she just wasn’t able to pick up again, she has had a long hard season and is due a well deserved holiday.  Badged, ridden by Brian Harding, was having his first run after his holiday and having lost his confidence a little at the end of last year it was lovely to see him running full of […]

The Sisters Race

Full sisters Rinnagree Rosie and Silverton unfortunately, due to lack of ideal opportunities on suitable ground, had to run in the same race, never great but needs must. Rinnagree Rosie ridden by Grant Cockburn ran a great race to finish a lovely second always staying on especially up the final hill when she was able to use her stamina and relentless gallop, having jumped and travelled well throughout, it’s been a great shame that there have been no three miles races on bottomless ground for her, but a lovely run from out of the handicap too. Silverton, ridden by Adrian Lane, was also running over hurdles due to lack of […]

Kelso 2nd April

When you want rain there is none to be found, as our last three runners found out, but when you don’t want any all it does is pour down, as Cruachan knows only too well.  Having gone to Kelso for decent ground, it started pouring with rain four hours before his race, and so the going was far from what he wanted.  He did run a very honest run, again, and finished in fourth place.  Fingers crossed that one day he will get the going that he really needs.

Wetherby – 1st April

The going at Werherby had dried out too much for Silverton to run, she really needs good Soft ground or softer!!! Cardore, ridden by Adam Nicol ran a lovely race in the two mile handicap hurdle, having been a bit out paced early on in the race he stayed on brilliantly to almost snatch second at the line catching the leaders all the way to the finish.  Another great run by a very honest little horse.

Rinnagree Rosie at Hexham – 29th March

Typically when you want rain there is none to be found, and sadly the ground at Hexham had dried up a little too much for Rinnagree Rosie, and while she still ran a good race and was able to stay on for fifth place, had the ground been softer I think the result may have been quite different. Adrian said that he was only just getting going when everyone else was pulling up!!! Ideally three miles on heavy going is what she needs.

Kelso Races – 13th March

The going had dried up nicely since the last meeting here, and was officially good to soft. Berkshire Downs ran in the two mile novice hurdle, ridden by Adam Nicol. It was the first time she has encountered going better that Heavy and she just found the pace over two miles a bit quick and as a result her jumping wasn’t quite so slick. However she still finished in a nice third place, and plenty to look forward to for her, especially when she goes over fences. Cruachan also ridden by Adam ran in the two mile six handicap hurdle but he struggled on the sticky ground and just wasn’t […]

Ayr Races, 11th March – Rinnagree Rosie

Rinnagree Rosie as always ridden by Adrian Lane, ran a great race the rain certainly came and the ground was really soft which certainly suits her. She jumped nicely and travelled well in first time cheekpeices but was slightly outpaced when the speed horses got involved, however she powered up the home straight like a rocket and was the strongest finishing horse, to finish a great third place only a few more strides and she would have been second. A lovely return to the track after a weather interrupted winter.

Newcastle – Cadore

Cadore, ridden by Jonathan England ran a nice race to be a very fast finishing fourth, he can tend to be caught a bit flat footed in the early stages of a race but then with plenty of encouragement from his jockey will always be doing his best late on in the race, another great run from him after a weather enforced break, lots to look forward to next time out.

Mr Whitaker

Very sadly on Monday 7th March 2016 my father passed away, peacefully and swiftly.  A huge hole has been left at Duncrievie – he was such an important part of the yard here and he will be greatly missed. A service of Thanksgiving is to be held at St. John’s Episcopal church in Perth on 22nd March at 2pm.
